Empowered by His Strength

“My grace is sufficient for you,  for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9

Have you ever felt like you’ll never lose weight and feel your best again? Well, we’re here to tell you, “Stop thinking that way!”  We understand the battle – especially as we age. It does get harder as we deal with peri-menopause and post-menopause challenges. But it is not impossible!

We know because we’ve personally been in the trenches as you have. Today in my mid-sixties, I (Danna) am leaner than I was in my thirties and I feel like I’m in my forties. However, as a young adult, I had an extremely unhealthy relationship with food. In fact, I was bulimic for many years. The only reason I was not obese was because I purged after binges.  I learned to apply scripture to my life in powerful ways to help me erase and replace my unhealthy thinking. That consistent practice helped me change my habits from the inside out.

On the other hand, I (Robyn) have very different challenges. As I hit my forties, my hormones were so out of whack, I couldn’t lose weight. I also began to struggle with insatiable hunger – a challenge I still face today. I’ve committed the past decade to massive research to find the best diet and supplements to become and stay lean. I’ve also learned the importance of trusting God in the journey. He gives me the strength not cave in to the lies my body tells me about being hungry. By his grace, and a strong foundation of personal discipline, I’ve stayed my ideal size through most of my “hunger games.”

We share all this because we want you to know that you don’t need to be a victim of your “feelings.” No matter what kind of battle you’re in, there is hope for victory. Perhaps you’ve developed unhealthy habits that need to be exchanged for healthier ones. Or maybe you feel you’ve lost all control when it comes to food. No matter. Change is possible!

We dedicate two full chapters in our book, EAT LIVE THRIVE DIET to the subject of “becoming transformed by the renewing of your mind” as it says in Romans 12:2. What we think and say impacts our emotions and behavior. God designed our brains so that the most dominant thoughts win. What are your negative dominant thoughts that are holding you back? We invite you to explore this topic and learn how to take the four steps necessary to change your habits from the inside out.

Questions for Reflection:

  • What do you think is holding you back from changing your habits permanently?
  • Do you believe God has given you the power and resources to find victory?
  • Are you willing to invest a few minutes every single day to erase your old unhealthy thoughts and replace them with impactful and healthy thoughts?
