5 Tips to Dress Fashionably Over 50

1. Find your personal style:
Knowing your personal style will help you choose clothing and accessories that suit your taste and personality. Take inspiration from women that express a style and way of living that appeals to you, but make sure to adapt their looks to suit your own style. Whether you are super casual most days (like us) or must dress for your profession – explore new ways to express yourself and enjoy fashion in a new way. Even a cute casual top like the one Robyn is wearing can make wearing jeans more fun. (You can find a top very similar to this one on Ageless Style)

2. Invest in quality basics:
Building a wardrobe of quality basics such as a well-fitted pair of jeans, a little black dress, and a tailored blazer will provide the foundation for a stylish wardrobe. These pieces can be mixed and matched with trendier items to create a variety of outfits. So, what is missing from your wardrobe this summer? I (Danna) just bought two discounted black sundresses from Ageless Style that I can wear over a bathing suit or dress up a little for going out to dinner.  You can find it HERE (Tip: It does not look black in the picture for some reason)

3. Accessorize:
Accessories can add a fashionable touch to any outfit. Experiment with statement jewelry, scarves, belts, hats, and bags to add interest to your look. As you can see, we like to wear hats! But even a great pair of earrings can enhance an outfit. Caution: the days of matching necklace, earrings, and bracelet are pretty much gone unless they are very subtle. If you choose a rather large earring, then forego the necklace. Big necklace: small earrings. Sometimes a brighter lipstick with a simple outfit is your accessory!

4. Experiment with trends:
Don’t be afraid to try out new trends, but choose those that suit your body shape and personal style. For example, if you like the animal print trend, try incorporating it into your wardrobe with a scarf or a pair of shoes. As you can see in the picture, even at 70+, Danna is paring an animal print top with lightly shredded jeans. It took her awhile to jump on the shredded jeans trend, but now she loves them. Who would have ever believed 20 years ago that we’d be buying our jeans like this? Fashion is funny…and fun!

5. Dress for your body shape:
Knowing your body shape and dressing to flatter it is key to looking fashionable. Choose clothing that highlights your best features and hides any problem areas. For example, if you have a pear-shaped body, choose dresses that flow from the bodice or waistline. Find the perfect fit for you. Clothes that are slightly to big or small will accentuate problem areas. We choose to wear some of the cute short dresses as tunics with leggings or skinny jeans which is a great way to camouflage our hips or upper legs. And, it’s also a fun way to wear some younger fashions in an age appropriate way.
